ABOUT ME

HI, MY NAME IS HERBERT. I LOVE TO ENJOY THE MOMENT IN NATURE ON MY BIKE.

IMG_9825_edited.jpg

Over the last few years I have been doing smaller bike trips, and these experiences gave me the idea to try a bigger, longer tour – to cycle around the whole of Germany!

What I love most about cycling is the speed. It's just the right speed to get ahead and discover all the little and big things at the same time. For me, experiencing the world on two wheels means freedom, adventure and sometimes a challenge - but that's part of it!

STAGE 1

Day 1 - Day 5 | Netherlands | Germany

Σ455KM | 1015HM

let's go

My journey began in the heart of the Netherlands, in charming Utrecht. It took me through flat terrain to Groningen, past lakes, sand dunes, wind turbines and picturesque villages and towns. From Groningen I then sprinted across the border back to Germany, to one of the country's largest ports.

STAGE 2

Day 6 - Day 10 | Germany | Denmark

Σ392KM | 2070HM

From North to Baltic Sea

With a fresh sea breeze in our faces, we set off from Bremerhaven along the North Sea coast, accompanied by the endless expanse of the Wadden Sea.
From Cuxhaven, my tour took me across idyllic paths and rolling hills across country towards Kiel - towards the varied Baltic coast. Picturesque beaches alternated with impressive steep slopes, and I enjoyed every minute of this route until I finally reached the northern pearl of Flensburg and crossed the border to Denmark.

STAGE 3

Day 11 - Day 18 | Denmark | Sweden | Germany

Σ580KM | 2571HM

Island hopping

After crossing the border into Denmark, my island hopping adventure began. I traveled from island to island over bridges and by ferry, past impressive landscapes, lonely coasts and endless horizons. The crowning glory was the vibrant city of Copenhagen, which amazed me with its diversity. I crossed the Baltic Sea over the imposing Öresund Bridge and reached a short, quiet stretch of Swedish soil before a ferry took me back to Germany.

Day 19 - Day 26 | Poland | Germany

Σ715KM | 2861HM

Along the border

My island hopping adventure continued in Germany. From the diverse island of Rügen, I went along the endless beaches of Usedom to Swinoujscie, the charming border town between Germany and Poland. From there, I followed the border along the Oder and Neisse rivers, which led me through quiet floodplain landscapes and the historic border region of former Silesia. My path finally ended in the border triangle near Zittau - a symbolic end to my journey

Day 35 - Day 43 | Austria | Switzerland | Germany

Σ724KM | 4675HM

Across the Alps

From Passau, the route took me along the border between Germany and Austria to Salzburg. From there, I cycled across the Alps until I reached the crowning glory of this stage, the Silvretta High Alpine Pass - a challenging climb that was rewarded with spectacular scenery and a magnificent descent. I finally reached Lake Constance, where my journey continued on the Swiss side.

Day 27 - Day 34 | Czech Republic | Germany

Σ585KM | 5762HM

Wild Czech Republic

My journey began in Dresden on the Elbe Cycle Path, which took me from the baroque splendor of the city through the impressive landscape of Saxon and Bohemian Switzerland to Prague, the golden city on the Vltava. From Prague onwards, things got wild: I cycled along the Vltava through hilly landscapes, tackling endless climbs and descents until I finally crossed the border into Austria.

Cher France

Along the Rhine, past the impressive Rhine Falls, I crossed the border into France near Basel. In Alsace I enjoyed the rolling wine hills, with charming villages and half-timbered houses that make this region so unique. Small canals and the Saar led me back to Germany, where the Saar showed its most beautiful side. Finally I reached Trier, the oldest city in Germany.

BE-NE-LUX Tour

From Luxembourg, my journey took me through the idyllic river valleys of the Sauer and Our before I crossed the border into Belgium. There I followed the famous Vennbahn, which meandered picturesquely through the Eifel to Aachen. From Aachen I continued to the Netherlands, where I cycled from Maastricht along the Maas and enjoyed the charming towns and the attractive river landscape. Finally, I reached Utrecht, the starting and end point of my unforgettable cycling trip.
